”I look after David, who’s nearly two, and his sister Alison who’s three, and I love them both! I get them up and dressed around 7am, and make a healthy breakfast before driving Alison to pre-school for 9.30am. David goes to baby gym at 10am, and before picking Alison up at mid-day, I do some of my duties around the house such as the kids' laundry, or I’ll call on a friend nearby for a chat.

Both kids are back for lunch, and afterwards I’ll put David down for a nap. Alison and I then have a chance to spend some time together playing or doing a creative art project. Later in the afternoon, we may have a play date with another au pair and her children – sometimes my friend Rosa comes over with her au pair children.

The kids have become good friends and they really enjoy playing together. Around 5pm it’s time for dinner and bath, and then I usually have the evening to myself – I go to the movies with friends, or stay in with my family, which is great too. I have a great relationship with my host parents and sometimes I spoil them by cooking a traditional meal from back home. I’m not an excellent cook, but luckily they’ve always enjoyed the dishes I’ve prepared for them.”
