Au Pairs Joined at the Seams!

A group of 13 Au Pair in America Community Counselors in the Chicago area decided to get their au pairs involved with Project Linus, an organisation that makes blankets for sick and underprivileged children. Their mission is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers” and to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity.  Together they have distributed over two million blankets to children in need since our inception in 1995.

The patterns were fabulous with everything from polka dots, soccer themes, dinosaurs, animal prints, dog-theme prints and more – each fleece blanket was fringed by hand. The au pairs and counselors worked together to purchase the fleece and follow the blanket pattern instructions according to the Chicago chapter of Project Linus. Host families supported the project by donating fleece and blankets made ahead of time.

One host mom told her Counselor that this project had a special meaning for her because her own son was seriously ill when he was born and was given a Project Linus blanket which they have kept. When she found out her au pair was taking part, she said it brought tears to her eyes.

Everyone involved had an amazing day and the au pairs found it to be a very heart warming experience. The blankets made by our au pairs had the following tag attached with our logo:

“Made with love by an au pair from Au Pair in America”
