As an au pair, you take part in the day-to-day routine of your host family, experiencing life in the US at first hand and taking part in all the family activities.
You will provide 45 hours of childcare per week, working no more than 10 hours in any one day or more than 5 ½ days a week. This means that you will have lots of free time. All your responsibilities are centred around the children, so you’re not expected to do heavy housework.

Your schedule will depend on the ages of the children e.g. if you look after school aged children, then you'll have quite a bit of free time during the day while the kids are at school. If you prefer to care for infants you will have a more fixed routine.
